Popis
For his album "Lost and Found" Albrecht Mayer went on a journey of discovery. He didn't want to believe that the repertoire for oboe was really as 'small' as interview questions to him often suggested. And so he set out and searched first the Internet and then those archives and libraries that promised success on the basis of digital discovery sites. In his search for oboe concertos for "Lost and Found," Albrecht Mayer focused on the classical era. He wanted to find an alternative for the oboe concerto by W. A. Mozart. He discovered 120 new concertos, of which he now presents the four most beautiful, accompanied by the Kammerakademie Potsdam, on this CD. The three oboe concertos on "Lost and found" are by Franz Anton Hoffmeister, Leopold Koželuh and Ludwig August Lebrun, the concerto for English horn by Joseph Fiala. All four are splendid finds that were not really lost, but are awakened by Mayer from a very deep slumber. Yet the Lebrun concerto is still the best known of these hitherto unknown or hardly played works, while the other three are rarities. Albrecht Mayer's rediscovered classical concertos on "Lost and Found" clearly demonstrate that unknown treasures from the archives can indeed enrich the concert repertoire for the oboe. "Music history is merciless," he said in a recent interview. And yes: the works by Hoffmeister, Koželuh, Lebrun and Fiala played here are so unjustifiably rare to hear, because they are catchy, demanding and very individual gems. The CD is also enriching because of the excellent interplay between orchestra and (conducting) soloist.
