"I had the American Dream of an opera singer." (Beverly Sills) The Times titled her "America's Queen of Opera" on its front page. And that said it all, and still says it all. After her triumphant 1966 performance in Ciulio Cesare at New York's Metropolitan Opera, there was no stopping her. Engagements followed at La Scala, the Vienna State Opera, of course the MET and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden - to name but a few. Her repertoire included more than 70 roles, including bel canto masterpieces such as Donizetti's Roberto Devereux, Maria Stuarda and Anna Bolena.
