Younger, who has collaborated in the past with musicians such as Pharaoh Sanders, Charlie Haden, Lauryn Hill, John Legend, Common, The Roots and Ravi Coltrane, sees "Brand New Life" as a tribute to the legendary Dorothy Ashby, with versions of some of her compositions and with compelling original compositions.
