Hypnotic like nature. Just in time for his 40th birthday, Nils Frahm presents himself and his fans with his new album "Music For Animals". The pianist, composer and sound tinkerer from Berlin has taken a long time for it, but also delivers an expansive work of over three hours playing time, in which you can really dive. The last "regular" Nils Frahm studio album was "All Melody," which made it to No. 15 in the German charts in 2018. Since then, however, the respected composer has not been lying on his lazy skin. Rather, he has toured extensively and has various live recordings, soundtrack participations and releases of older material to his credit. In addition, the Piano Day initiator is also well occupied with hosting this worldwide holiday. With Nils Frahm's vested love for the keyboard instrument, it is all the more surprising that there is no piano to be heard far and wide on "Music For Animals". But even so, the maximally decelerated, meditative sound tapestries can be clearly assigned to the Berliner. The new pieces were influenced by nature. "My constant inspiration," says Frahm, "is such mesmerizing things as watching a big waterfall, or the leaves of a tree in a storm. It's good that there are symphonies and music in which there is a development. But the waterfall doesn't need a first, second and third act and then a result, neither do the leaves in a storm. Some people just like to watch the leaves rustle and the branches move in the wind. This album is for them." The fact that such soothing and immersive music as on "Music For Animals" invites you to dream, at worst even to drift off, is no problem for Nils Frahm. " It all goes back to this waterfall. If you want to watch it, then watch it. If you don't, you don't have to. It will always be the same, but just never quite the same." The 4LP vinyl set is housed in a single-pocket cardboard jacket and comes in two variants.
