On "My Prophet", Oded Tzur and his quartet, consisting of pianist Nitai Hershkovits, bassist Petros Klampanis and new group member Cyrano Almeida on drums, continue on the remarkably idiosyncratic musical path, which was already taken on "Here Be Dragons" and continued on "Isabela", whereby his free-flowing jazz idiom, which seamlessly combines different forms of expression, seems even more perfect here and the saxophonist dives even deeper into the meditative, concentrated form of improvisation. The quartet sounds more fiery than ever. Its special synergy leads to an interplay in which each musician contributes with his own voice to an ensemble sound that evokes both the quietest storm and the most passionate crescendo. Hershkovits' wide stylistic range and seamless technique swirl around Oded's distinctive tenor timbre, while Klampanis - adaptable and authoritative at the same time - takes on both backbone and melody-leading functions - very much in the spirit of his rhythmic counterpart Almeida.
Oded Tzur's third album for ECM was recorded in the south of France and produced by Manfred Eicher.
