This previously unreleased concert recording of the Tomasz Stanko Quartet, recorded in September 2004 at the Muffathalle in Munich, is a fascinating document that captures a special moment in the band's musical development, between the song-like structures of the Suspended Night repertoire and the free-flowing improvisations that the Polish musicians would later explore on "Lontano". The performance in Munich was a highlight in a year in which the Stanko Quartet played a record number of gigs, with extensive tours of the USA and Europe. The great trumpeter himself shows his charismatic side here, in excellent form and visibly inspired by the energetic playing and communicative power of Marcin Wasilewski, Slawomir Kurkiewicz and Michal Miskiewicz, the dynamic young musicians whose mentor he was.
