"Black Gives Way To Blue" is the fourth studio album by American band Alice in Chains, originally released in 2009
"Black Gives Way To Blue" is the first record of the American band Alice in Chains without the lead singer Layne Staley, who died in 2002, and the first album with the new singer and rhythm guitarist William DuVall, who shares here the vocals with the lead guitarist and singer Jerry Cantrell, who contributes lead vocals on most songs
The title track, "Black Gives Way To Blue," is a tribute to Staley with Elton John on piano. The album debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the RIAA on May 26, 2010 - with sales of more than 500,000 copies in the U.S. and over 1 million copies worldwide. "Check My Brain" and "A Looking in View" were nominated for Grammy Awards for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2010 and 2011, respectively, and the album won Revolver Magazine's Golden Gods Award for Album of the Year in 2010.
