When Art Blakey recorded the album "'S Make It" for Limelight in 1964, he and his band The Jazz Messengers were going through a period of upheaval. During this time, the drummer kept changing the line-up from one album to the next. "'S Make It" is described by many critics as one of the criminally underrated albums by the Jazz Messengers, on which Blakey returned to a more soulful sound. The drummer compiled the repertoire from originals by his new bandmates and some compositions by Lee Morgan. The trumpeter had only recently left the band to pursue his solo career.
