Charles Lloyd: Sangam & Friends

At 88, Charles Lloyd is one of the most influential jazz musicians of his generation. With “Sangam & Friends,” the saxophonist pays tribute to his longstanding musical and personal connection with his friend Zakir Hussain. The collaboration stems from Lloyd’s decades-long fascination with India’s spiritual and artistic traditions. The focus is on previously unreleased recordings from Mumbai in 2009, made with the Sangam Trio (Charles Lloyd, Zakir Hussain, Eric Harland) and renowned musicians of Indian classical music. Following Zakir Hussain’s death in December 2024, the recordings take on additional emotional significance as a testament to an extraordinary artistic partnership and deep friendship.
