Chuck Berry: After School Session (180 g) (LP)

This album was the first by a man who quite simply changed the face of music. Originally released in 1957 by Chess Records in Chicago, it underscored the value the label placed on him. They recognized that they were dealing with a star, and they were certainly right. It’s hard to believe, but this groundbreaking album was never released in England at the time, even though Chuck’s second album, *One Dozen Berrys*, was. Both albums are highly sought after on both sides of the Atlantic and, taken together, command high prices, as they represent the best of his early material—the songs for which he is best remembered. This is certainly an album to love and cherish. After two major hits with the singles “Maybellene” and “Roll Over Beethoven” in 1955 and 1956, it wasn’t until May 1957 that Chuck Berry released his debut album and masterpiece, *After School Session*. As the second album released by the legendary Chess Records label, “After School Session” introduced audiences to a new sound. The album was a tribute to teenagers, and its mix of rock tracks laid the foundation for the rise of rock ’n’ roll. The tracks include “School Day (Ring Ring Goes The Bell),” “Brown Eyed Handsome Man,” and “Too Much Monkey Business.”
