Abbey Lincoln: Over The Years (2LP)

On "Over The Years," the then 70-year-old Abbey Lincoln drew an impressive interim résumé of her career. For this, she put together a delightful program with pieces from the 1940s, traditionals, romantic standards and her own compositions, which was rather unusual even for a notorious iconoclast like Abbey. She was accompanied on the recording of the album, which is considered one of her best, by a young New York backing trio as well as tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and trumpeter Jerry González as prominent guests.
