Popis
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of a true milestone in the history of electronic music, the 10-track album is out now on stunning blue vinyl and includes hits such as "Wake Me Up," which reached the top of the charts worldwide and now has over 2 billion streams on Spotify alone, as well as the other hit singles "You Make Me," "Hey Brother," "Addicted to You" and more.
Released on September 13, 2013, True marked a true watershed as the debut studio album from the now deceased Swedish producer, not only for Avicii himself, but for the entire EDM scene and had a lasting impact on international dance music. It was to take the charts by storm in all countries, topping charts and earning one platinum and gold award after another.
When asked about the sound of "True," Avicii said at the time that the album would move away sonically from his earlier house music sound on previous records by incorporating elements of other genres and styles, creating a sound all its own.
The album opens with the guitar riffs of "Wake Me Up," which for many will be a track that takes them back to the summer of 2013. It is probably the catchiest song on the album and not necessarily something you would expect from an EDM artist like this. Although the genre-specific elements are clearly present, the track is based on a melody that might be more commonly found on country or folk albums. Coupled with the unique vocals of R&B singer Aloe Blacc, made it a world hit that seemingly effortlessly crosses the boundaries between genres, a concept that runs throughout the album. EDM with concept, for this stood and stands "True" to this day.
Probably only a few knew in 2013 all the artists who can be heard on "True". The singer on "Dear Boy", who could easily be mistaken for Lana Del Rey, is the talented Danish singer MØ. There is also support from various Swedish artists. The album's second single, "You Make Me," features Salem Al Fakir as well as Vincent Pontare. Swedish artist Linnea Henriksson also sings a beautiful cover of "Hope There's Someone," originally by Antony and The Johnsons. But if ever a house version of a classic is to be made, no one was better suited for it than Avicii.
However, the album also features some very high profile artists. Nile Rodgers is unmistakable in the jazzy uptempo song "Lay Me Down," folk-rock singer Audra Mae is also represented, as well as Mac Davis, who wrote some of Elvis Presley's biggest hits, another heavyweight legend who added his touch to the album. His signature on "Addicted To You" reinforces the country influences that permeate the album.
One might think too wide a range of artists on one album could lead to a muddle, but not with Avicii, as he seems to have a perfect command of every single sound and style on "True," steering the ship confidently from the helm. There is a special mixture of the unknown and the legendary here, resulting in a fresh sound whose influence can still be felt today.
This unique album appears as a unique special edition limited edition.
