The extraordinary French pianist Michel Petrucciani made international headlines in the early 1980s with his recordings with the two American jazz legends Lee Konitz and Charles Lloyd. On "Power of Three", his second album for Blue Note Records, the 23-year-old piano virtuoso presented himself sometimes as a duo, sometimes as a trio with two other American jazz greats: guitarist Jim Hall and saxophonist Wayne Shorter. The album, recorded live at the 1986 Montreux Jazz Festival, documented an almost magical evening in which three exceptional musicians came together.
