Ella Fitzgerald: Sings The Rodgers & Hart Song Book (2LP)

"Sings the Rodgers and Hart Songbook" was the second of Ella Fitzgerald's celebrated songbook albums for Verve Records in 1956 and is considered one of the best vocal jazz albums ever. Three months after the release of their joint "Cole Porter Songbook" album, Ella and arranger and conductor Buddy Bregman went into the studio to begin recording the "Rodgers and Hart Songbook". As on the previous album, the "First Lady of Song" is accompanied here by the crème de la crème of West Coast session musicians, many of whom were also involved in the fabulous recordings that Frank Sinatra was making in the same studio at the same time. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. A year later, the "Cole Porter Songbook" received the same honor.
