Under the aegis of producer Creed Taylor, Wes Montgomery began his transformation from a pure jazz guitarist to the first crossover star in 1964. After selling over 100,000 copies of his debut album for the label, "Movin' Wes", he entered the Billboard charts for the first time in 1965 with his second album "Bumpin'". Accompanied by an excellently arranged orchestra under the direction of Don Sebesky, the guitarist recorded a dreamlike mixture of balladic standards, Latin pieces and bluesy, swinging original compositions.
