Cécile McLorin Salvant: Oh Snap (LP)

With her single "What does blue mean to you?", Cécile McLorin Salvant, a young and magnificent jazz voice from Miami, announces great things for the year 2025. "Oh Snap" is the name of the subsequent album with 12 tracks that artfully reflect McLorin Salvant's cross-genre preferences and influences from her childhood in Miami in the 1990s: from boy bands to grunge to classical and folk. This guarantees a lively listening experience consisting of party tracks with beats, samba grooves and quiet folk songs. Then there is also a 13th number, song number five "Brick House", a cover version of the Commodores hit from 1977, with which Cécile McLorin Salvant realizes her wish to pay tribute to a central verse from this song. For "Oh Snap", Cécile McLorin Salvant invited her long-time musical companions Sullivan Fortner, Yasushi Nakamura and Kyle Poole, June McDoom and Kate Davis to make guest contributions, so that the spectrum of sounds and voices could not have been richer!
