Popis
Having just been awarded the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Music for her first opera, “Omar,” Rhiannon Giddens will release her third studio album in August 2023. This new album by the Grammy-winning singer, composer, and instrumentalist is also her first to feature exclusively her own songs.
When Rhiannon Giddens released her last album, “Freedom Highway,” in 2017, critics were absolutely raving about it. And it’s safe to assume that “You’re the One” will be no different. The 12 songs, written throughout her career to date, are brimming with life-affirming energy and span a fascinating sonic spectrum—from the folk music which Giddens knows and masters like few others, to the more pop-oriented sounds that define the genre today. The album was produced by Jack Splash (Kendrick Lamar, Solange, Alicia Keys, Valerie June, Tank and the Bangas) and recorded at Criteria Recording Studios in Miami. Also in the studio: a band comprising some of Giddens’ closest musical collaborators from the past decade, musicians from Splash’s own address book, and a horn section—an impressive ensemble of ten to twelve musicians that delivers the album’s rich sound.
For her work on “You’re the One,” Giddens teamed up with some of her closest musical collaborators from the past ten years, including her partner, the Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, as well as multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell, bassist Jason Sypher, and Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu.
Following the release of her album “They’re Calling Me Home” two years ago, which she recorded with Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, the artist is now back with her new album “You’re the One.” Through her unique blend of traditional American folk and old-time music, combined with Irish-Gaelic influences, the singer has developed her own distinctive style in recent years.
