"Burning Hell" was recorded in Detroit, MI in 1959, but not released until 1964. Even then, it was only available in the UK.
This 180-gram vinyl pressing marks the first official worldwide single LP release of the album. Pressed at QRP in association with Acoustic Sounds, the album features Hooker solo playing originals and classics. AllMusic writes that on this album Hooker proves himself to be an excellent performer who could have rivaled the Delta bluesmen of any era.
