"Black Gives Way To Blue" is the fourth studio album by the American band Alice in Chains, originally released in 2009 "Black Gives Way To Blue" is the first album by the American band Alice in Chains without lead singer Layne Staley, who died in 2002, and the first album with new singer and rhythm guitarist William DuVall, who shares the vocals here with lead guitarist and singer Jerry Cantrell, who provides the lead vocals on most of the songs The title track "Black Gives Way To Blue" is a tribute to Staley with Elton John on piano. The album debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the RIAA on May 26, 2010 - with sales of more than 500,000 copies in the U.S. and over 1 million copies worldwide. "Check My Brain" and "A Looking in View" were nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2010 and 2011, respectively, and the album won Revolver Magazine's 2010 Golden Gods Award for Album of the Year.
