Charles Ives was a true visionary of Classical Modernism, experimenting with techniques years before they became a common part of avant-garde music (simultaneity of different tempos, bitonality, quarter tones, space music, etc.). Sir Andrew Davis and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra honour Ives with a new CHANDOS series featuring recordings of his orchestral works. The first two are his first symphonies, which still have largely late-romantic traits.
