The album *Greatest Hits*, originally released in October 1981, featured Queen’s biggest chart hits, starting with their first chart entry in 1974 with “Seven Seas of Rhye” and continuing through “Flash” in 1980. With over 25 million copies sold in total, it is Queen’s best-selling album to date and is thus also one of the most successful albums of all time.
The cover photo, which appeared on the British and U.S. editions, was taken by Lord Snowdon in his home studio using only natural light. The now-iconic image was distorted on the first and best-known 1981 edition but was later presented in its original form.
