Popis
"The Moth" is Devin Townsend's most ambitious work to date, a project he considers his life's work - an immersive orchestral, choral and theatrical project - a rock opera that he has been working on for over a decade. What began as a distant goal became a reality when Townsend was invited to collaborate with the North Netherlands Orchestra and Choir. Unlike his previous genre-bending works, "The Moth" was conceived from the ground up as a fully orchestrated narrative. Townsend spent years relearning the musical fundamentals to write the score himself: Harmony, counterpoint and orchestration were built from scratch, expertly assisted by Joseph Stevenson. The result is a carefully crafted, emotional work in which every instrument and every voice has its place. The album was recorded in more than ten countries and brings together an extraordinary international line-up: the aforementioned North Netherlands Orchestra and Choir, longtime collaborators such as Darby Todd, Mike Keneally and James Leach, and guests such as Steve Vai, Anneke Van Giersbergen and Lynn Wu (Ou). Hundreds of musicians, engineers, mixers and artists contributed to the project's vast creative ecosystem. At its core, "The Moth" is about transformation. Through its soaring arrangements and intimate moments, the work explores self-acceptance, surrender and the courage to face discomfort without turning away. "The Moth" is about the journey - but also about the arrival.
