Rameau: Castor et Pollux (2CD)

Castor et Pollux, the third opera by Jean-Philippe Rameau, is packed with arias in which the singers can fully develop their abilities: "Tristes apprêts" for Télaïre, "Nature, Amour" for Pollux, "Séjour de l'éternelle paix" for Castor and "Soulevons tous les dieux" for Phébé. In this new recording, Judith Van Wanroij, Reinoud Van Mechelen, Tassis Christoyannis and Véronique Gens shine as soloists, as do the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Orchestra. The research into questions of the research into questions of performance practice, which began several years ago and which also incorporates today's knowledge of performance practice at the Paris Opera at the time of Rameau, was supplemented by intensive work on the score and with the performers. The new recording of Rameau's work published in this context is directed by György Vashegyi and was under the patronage of the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles.
