Hauschka: What If (LP)

There is composer Volker Bertelmann, who has just been nominated for a Golden Globe, BAFTA Award and Oscar for his soundtrack work - and there is musician Hauschka and he has a new album called "What If" What If is a radical, challenging and complex masterpiece whose sound collages are far too agitated and exciting for the chillout piano playlists of this world. It clicks, clangs and rumbles its way through new sound worlds that we haven't heard from Hauschka before What If - what if our children lived on Mars? Or each of us lived to be a thousand years old? The song titles on the new record play with these questions and illustrate them in a thoroughly adventurous spectrum of sounds, ranging from high-speed tracks on the programmable player piano to spacey pieces with Moog bass and well-prepared beats What If will not let us go in 2017, Hauschka still plays piano to revel in, but at the same moment the artist sends his audience on a course of challenging bumpy beats and beautifully difficult questions.
