Grandbrothers: Open

The Düsseldorf duo Grandbrothers are not afraid of new ideas. On the contrary. They are tireless in their exploration of new ideas while retaining what is technically innovative, exciting, distinctive and their very own. On their second album Open, every note, every sound was created by a single instrument - a classical concert grand piano, whose boundaries of sonic expression were pushed and pushed to the limit. Grandbrothers developed a unique, complex system of over twenty electromechanical hammers that strike the strings and transform the resonating body of the grand piano into a percussion instrument. The two musicians met seven years ago at the Institute for Music and Media in Düsseldorf. With Open, they have taken a decisive step forward: The songs are more complex, more intense and more powerful than on Dilation - which is also rooted in the sophisticated technology that allows them to expand their sonic range many times over. The duo's unique sound has been causing a stir since their very first tracks.
