Nirvana (UK Sixties Rock Band): Song of Love and Praise

Esoteric Recordings are releasing a newly remastered and expanded edition of the legendary album Songs of Love & Praise recorded by the British band Nirvana in 1971. Originally released on the Philips label in 1972, Songs of Love & Praise was the second album to be released under the Nirvana name. After parting amicably with Alex Spyropoulos a few months earlier, the sole responsibility for the project lay with songwriter, singer and producer Patrick Campbell Lyons. The result was three innovative Nirvana albums for Island Records & Pye Records and the hit single "Rainbow Chaser". After the more "progressive" album Local Anaesthetic (1971), Campbell Lyons took a more song-heavy direction on Songs of Love & Praise. Two Nirvana songs from the late 1960s appeared here in a newly arranged form (Rainbow Chaser and Pentecost Hotel). The album features contributions from many guest musicians, e.g. the band Jade Warrior. Original vinyl copies of the album fetch huge sums at auction, which is what makes this Esoteric Recordings edition so welcome. The reissue has been remastered from original Philips master tapes and includes two rare bonus tracks (both B-sides from singles) appearing on CD for the first time, Lazy Day Drift and Ad Lib (released under the pseudonym Pica). The booklet includes an essay by Malcolm Dome and an exclusive interview with Patrick Campbell Lyons.
