The Planets by Gustav Holst is the most performed work of 20th century British music and has an immediate appeal to music lovers of all generations. It has an enduring appeal to music lovers of all generations. This top-class live recording from 2006 was long overdue for the Berliner Philharmoniker, as they had not recorded The Planets since the legendary Karajan recording of 1981. Contrary to popular belief, The Planets is not a typically "English" work. Holst's eclectic musical world was shaped by his fascination with astrology, mythology and horoscopes as well as Sanskrit scriptures. This recording is now being released on vinyl.
