Verdi: Requiem / Abbado (2LP)

Claudio Abbado made only a few recordings for EMI Classics (now Warner), including Mozart's flute Flute concertos with Emmanuel Pahud. This live recording of Verdi's Messa da Requiem is undoubtedly a significant modern version of the work. in 2001, Claudio Abbado was nearing the end of his tenure as chief conductor and artistic director of the Berliner Philharmoniker when he was diagnosed with stomach cancer was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Nevertheless, he was able to conduct Verdi's Requiem in two concerts of particular significance, which offered a remarkable modern interpretation of the work. He was joined by an outstanding quartet of soloists, three of the world's most renowned choirs and the famous Berlin orchestra. This recording is now being released as a 2 LP set.
