Bach's six sonatas and partitas are a dreaded touchstone for every violin virtuoso, demanding everything from the player not only in terms of playing technique but also, not least, in terms of musical inspiration. Baroque violinists have also long since conquered this repertoire, and the music lover also has a large number of recordings to choose from here. However, there are always productions that make one sit up and take notice. Among these is the recording by Enrico Onofri, the long-time concertmaster of the ensemble Il Giardino Armonico. His interpretation inspires, among other things, with an unheard-of richness of detail with regard to ornamentation and dynamics.
