Melissa Aldana: Filin (LP)

Saxophonist Melissa Aldana follows up her GRAMMY-nominated Blue Note debut "12 Stars" (2022) and the follow-up album "Echoes Of The Inner Prophet" (2024), two critically acclaimed spiritual modern jazz works, now follows with her third Blue Note album "Filin", an equally impressive ballad album with songs from the Cuban filin music tradition, interpreted in a quartet with pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kush Abadey as well as guest singer Cécile McLorin Salvant. Born in Chile, Aldana has wanted to record a ballad album since her early days as a musician. With role models such as John Coltrane's classic album "Ballads" from 1963 as a guiding star, she saw a project with slow tempos as an opportunity to continue her lifelong search for the perfect sound.
