Sting: If on a Winter's Night

An acoustic meditation on the various aspects of winter Sting, the very great gentleman of rock music, strikes quieter notes. His new album, "If on a Winter's Night ..." is an "acoustic meditation" on the various aspects of winter. In the wake of his international success as a solo artist and The Police's spectacular reunion tour, Sting's new album If on a Winter's Night ... spans the season of deep reflection and religiosity, the eerie silence of snow-covered landscapes, lonely days of self-reflection and - for some - inner rebirth. Beginning with traditional music from the British Isles, Sting and his guests (including Daniel Hope, Dominic Miller, Chris Botti) captivate listeners with a collection of songs, Christmas carols and lullabies through the centuries - such as The Snow it Melts the Soonest (traditional Ballad from Newcastle), Soalin (traditional English "petition song"), Gabriel's Message (a 14th century Christmas carol), as well as with two of Sting's own compositions - Lullaby for an Anxious Child and The Hounds of Winter. Also on this album is Hurdy Gurdy Man - a musical adaptation and English translation (by Sting) of Der Leiermann from Schubert's classic winter song cycle Winterreise.
