Popis
Till Brönner appreciates the broad horizon with which he, the highly decorated jazz musician, roams through the world of music. His new album "At The End Of The Day" interprets songs from five decades of pop history. Pop, not jazz! And also takes a trip to Johann Sebastian Bach. He already suspects that fundamental questions will arise with his arrangements, from the Beatles to Bowie to US rockers The Killers. For example: Why is he doing this? Or even: Is he allowed to do this at all, as a trumpeter who has won many awards, received four Echos and a Grammy nomination in the course of his 25-year career, whose recordings have sold more than a million copies around the world and who has worked with the biggest names in jazz and pop? Fundamental questions that annoy him a little. "I'm constantly confronting these jazz worlds. And that's where new, different things are created. But whether you have to release them on an album is another matter." Till Brönner has long since decided to set his own standards. After "Oceana" (2006) and the bossa nova homage "Rio" (2008), Till Brönner rummaged through a universal pop library in 2010: "We played the 'Rio' program extensively at concerts all over the world without knowing exactly where the next journey would take us. At the same time, I intensified my encounters with other artists. The result is a collection that could not have been more colorful. Fascinating finds from my life, which I ultimately selected according to the possibilities they offer me for my own expression." Till Brönner found it relatively easy to choose the 12 best of the 30 or so reference songs. "During production, we worked out the 'temperature' for my voice fluidly. In the end, I was able to perform on "At The End Of The Day" as both trumpeter and singer." Brönner confirms that he did without any musical-historical connections. "Space Oddity" by Bowie stands as an independent statement, just as there is no thematic bridge between "Human" by The Killers and "Human" by the British new wave band Human League. His trumpet takes "Air" from Johann Sebastian Bach's 3rd orchestral suite into other spheres, just as all the other tracks live from his unmistakable trumpet playing. Brönner's new album is pure, very personal eclecticism. He free-floats through a pop universe in which the Beatles of the early sixties meet the American 70s duo Seals & Croft ('Summer Breeze'). ' "Summer Breeze", the first single, also acts as an overture for the upcoming album "At The End of the Day", which will be released on October 15, 2010. A congenial prelude to an extraordinary musical expedition. Till Brönner looks at the history of pop in his own way. If you ask him about it, he will happily discuss the artistic strategies of Lady Gaga and Amy Winehouse or the minimalism of techno. But his music takes him in a different direction. He leaves trends or currents of the underground to others - and devotes himself to a subject close to his heart: timelessness.
