Popis
Four unique, top-class European jazz pianists, each with boundless freedom of expression. Boundless joy for the audience in the packed Great Hall of the Philharmonie Berlin. But perhaps it was also about something even more important: the unique power of music to connect people.
It was this intense magic that brought the "Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic" series to life. The first concert in 2012 featured three pianists: iiro Rantala, Michael Wollny and Leszek Możdżer. It began as a one-off experiment, a specially curated jazz concert in the classical music temple that is the Philharmonie Berlin. But that was just the beginning: this unique series of concerts and recordings has continued to evolve.
More than a decade later, Rantala, Wollny and Możdżer meet again in this special hall, where "the music should always take center stage" This time, the three originals are joined by another unique pianistic talent, Grégory Privat. The principle is the same as in 2012, and yet the outside world has changed immeasurably, so that the choice of repertoire and the interpretations reflect the many contradictions of our time. There is now more seriousness, thoughtfulness and introspection - but also hope, joy and curiosity. And as if to defy all the imponderables of the world, we hear outbursts of fun - childlike, playful, uninhibited.
Perhaps above all, Rantala, Wollny, Możdżer and Privat succeed in allowing us to experience what music really is as an art form: a reflection of our times, but also a means of expressing pure emotion... and a uniquely powerful form of communication with the power to touch people at their core.
