Hauschka: Abandoned City (Limited Edition) (LP)

Limited vinyl with remixes by DEVENDRA BANHART and ELUVIUM. Last year, HAUSCHKA (aka Volker Bertelmann) released "Abandoned City", an album of piano pieces inspired by forgotten places slowly decaying and reverting back to nature. The album was magnificent and uniquely moving - critics applauded and HAUSCHKA underlined once again underlined his status as a member of the elite of modern composers. "A NDO C Y" is a continuation of the story of "Abandoned City", told over two sides. Side A brings together five tracks from the sessions for "Abandoned City"; a suite of songs that come together to form an exceptionally coherent whole. These songs incorporate minimalist techno as well as modern composition, which makes the tracks seem made for remixes. On side B, folk icon DEVENDRA BANHART reinterprets "Agdam" from "Abandoned City" - to fragments of individual piano parts and effervescent synths effervescent synths. In comparison, the interpretation of "Stromness" by ELUVIUM is almost shockingly euphoric, while cascades of distortion pour over individual piano notes.
