Popis
With this recording, part 42 of the complete edition of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's music for solo piano, Miklós Spányi continues his exploration of transcriptions of concertos originally written for piano and orchestra, adding some movements from early versions of sonatas (the standard versions of which appeared in earlier parts of this series). Four of the six concertos from the collection Wq 43 can be heard here. When Bach published this collection of six concertos for keyboard instrument and orchestra in 1772, he also produced a version for solo piano, intended for moderately advanced amateurs who could then play them at home without orchestra, thus opening up a much larger market. A clever move by the shrewd businessman Bach. Of his decision to record these works on a clavichord rather than a tangent grand piano, Spányi says that this offers "almost infinite possibilities for fine dynamic shading" and that "the necessary dynamic contrasts can be emphasized even better than on other keyboard instruments of the time". Spanyi adds that this release is a tribute to the clavichord, in particular to his own instrument, which was built by Joris Potvlieghe.
