Popis
Tchaikovsky's unnumbered symphony Manfred has always resisted classification as a symphony or as a symphonic poem in four movements. Based on a poem by Byron, it bears some similarities to Berlioz's Harold in Italy and depicts Manfred's stormy journey to the long-awaited peace of death. The rousing Marche slave has long been a popular concert piece.
The much-admired Tchaikovsky recordings of the Utah Symphony Orchestra and Maurice Abravanel - who made his orchestra known as one of America's most distinguished and respected - were originally released by Vox in 1974.
