Schnittke: Complete Works for Two Violins

Alfred Schnittke’s work bears an unmistakable personal signature that brings together very different stylistic worlds. The deeply captivating works in this program are characterized by extraordinary expressiveness and a rich variety of sounds. From the haunting sounds of the prepared piano in his first “Concerto Grosso” to the playful theatricality of “Moz-Art” (based on the fragment KV 416d), this album brings together all of Schnittke’s works for two violins, both with and without orchestra. Violinist Friedemann Eichhorn is one of the most creative and versatile musicians of his generation, equally at home performing early Baroque music on period instruments as he is performing classical and contemporary works with renowned orchestras and chamber music partners. Among many other works, Friedemann Eichhorn has rediscovered and recorded for the first time the complete violin concertos of the French virtuoso Pierre Rode. He has performed the world premieres of Fazil Say’s “Violin Sonata No. 2,” the transcriptions of “Tristan and Isolde,” and the “Violin Concerto No. 2.” Vadim Gluzman is widely regarded as one of today’s leading concert artists. He performs with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors and premieres works by composers such as Sofia Gubaidulina, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Michael Daugherty, and Lera Auerbach.
