Michael Nyman, who is best known for his music for Jane Campion's Oscar-winning film The Piano, is without doubt one of the great contemporary composers. Fittingly for the Handel Year 2009, Michael Nyman celebrated the German premiere in Handel's hometown of Halle of his composition "The Musicologist Scores", which was written for this occasion and in which he deals intensively with the artistic work of George Frideric Handel. In addition, many other well-known works by the composer were performed. The powerful and energetic playing of the Michael Nyman Band has long been a characteristic feature of his music, bringing his works to flourishing life around the world.
