"Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar" is a must-have album not only for not only for Zappa fans, but also for guitarists of any of any stripe. The three-part series first appeared 1981-1982. As you can easily deduce from the title title, "Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar" contains exclusively instrumental exclusively instrumental tracks with focus on improvised improvised guitar solos: a great showcase for Frank Zappa in his capacity for Frank Zappa in his capacity as one of the greatest guitar greatest guitar virtuosos of all time Featured are contributions from "Inca Roads," "Conehead," "Easy Meat," "The Illinois Enema Bandit," "City of Tiny Lites," "Black Napkins," "The Torture Never Stops," "Chunga's Revenge," "Ship Ahoy" and "A Pound for a Brown on the Bus." Congenial co-musicians on these recordings include rhythm guitarists Steve Vai and Warren Cuccurillo, keyboardists Tommy Mars, Peter Wolf and Bob Harris, percussionist Ed Mann and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta. The closing track, "Canard du Jour," is a duet by Zappa on electric bouzouki with jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty on baritone violin, recorded in 1972. Various of these solos are performed by Zappa in his "Frank Zappa Guitar Book."
