Divanhana: Radio Sevdah

Divanhana from Bosnia and Herzegovina will release their album *Radio Sevdah* in 2025 on CD and LP via CPL-Music. Divanhana hail from Sarajevo—that fascinating city where East and West have been meeting for centuries. For 15 years, the band has been one of the most important ambassadors of Sevdah, a profound musical tradition of Bosnia and Herzegovina that often tells of longing, lost love, and nostalgia—an emotional cousin to Fado or Morna. In their home country, the band has been playing to sold-out venues for over ten years; with their latest album, *Zavrzlama* (2022), they reached number one on both the World Music Charts Europe and the Transglobal World Music Charts. With “Radio Sevdah,” Divanhana pays homage to a cultural institution: Radio Sarajevo. From the 1940s through the 1980s, the station produced the most significant Sevdah recordings; it served as an archive, a music center, and a gathering place for legendary artists. Consequently, “Radio Sevdah” is structured like a radio program: with jingles, introductions, and musical transitions that bridge the past and the present. Traditional sevdalinka songs are juxtaposed with new original compositions that Divanhana brings into the present with their signature blend of jazz, classical, folk, pop, and electronic music, led by their new lead singer, Selma Droce.
