Dobranotch: Merčedes Kolo

Dobranotch was founded in France in 1998, where the original line-up of the now seven-piece band lived in a squat, earned their keep in the surrounding pubs with spontaneous gigs and won over the stubborn people of northern France with their unusual mix of Russian and Yiddish music and Soviet hits. Despite their love of travel, the St. Petersburgers have never lost sight of their own homeland: musical influences from the former Soviet republics and the "golden age" of Russian brass orchestras play just as big a role here as Balkan sounds, traditional Yiddish songs and a large pinch of gypsy passion. After numerous live performances in over 20 countries worldwide, seven studio albums, EPs and soundtracks, the wild multicultural troupe is now releasing their latest work, "Merčedes Kolo", on which they once again shake up the folk music scene armed with trombone, clarinet, tuba, fiddle, saxophone and accordion.
