Iona Fyfe: Away From My Window

For her debut album, she was able to win over numerous well-known Scottish folk musicians as guests, including Tim Edey, Luc Mcnally, Ross Miller, Simon Gall, Graham Rorie and others. The album presents an exciting mix of traditional and modern Scottish folk songs, which Iona Fyfe brings into the here and now with a fresh approach. The musician describes her debut as a "concept album that celebrates the Scottish folk revival and seeks to advance the idea that a folk song is an ever-changing art form. Changing with the rhythm of the tides." Iona Fyfe celebrates the traditional art form of bothy ballads from her native Aberdeenshire, but interprets it in a contemporary way. All but three tracks are based on traditional material. The singer's extraordinary and expressive voice hovers over everything. A strong debut from the "Young Scots Trad Awards" winner.
