Purcell: Fantasias for the Viols (SACD)

Just like William Lawes' Consort Sets, this music is so pure and so well performed, one wonders how come we all have to live in such a deaf age, in which the most powerful notes had been pushed to the underground and even classical radio stations don't bother to stress that Bach, Mozart and Beethoven are only pupils of much greater masters living long before them. One feels, it's not music for the masses, and yet one feels it should be heard by everyone. Anyway, Purcell was only 21 when he composed this material and he didn't ever bother to publish it! Incredible how talented the man was. Savall and his crew truly deserve the highest praise for this recording. Lovely cover and booklet accompany the masterpiece to sweeten your life even more.
