Meszecsinka: Allj Bele A Mélybe / Stand Into The Deep (LP)

MESZECSINKA is considered one of the most exciting world music ensembles in their native Hungary. Translated from Bulgarian, the band’s name means “Little Moon.” The band, led by charismatic singer Annamária Oláh and pianist Emil Biljarszki, sings in seven languages: Hungarian, Spanish, Russian, Bulgarian, Finnish, Italian, and their own unique idiom. The musicians hail from four countries (Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Poland) and musically navigate unusual borderlands, where Bulgarian and Hungarian folklore meet Spanish flamenco and psychedelic sounds. Oriental and experimental tones go hand in hand here, as if they’d never done anything else. On “Stand Into The Deep,” MESZECSINKA once again impresses with an unusual mix of styles: we hear the ancient throat singing of the Inuit, seemingly harmless lullabies, Siberian vocal techniques, and fragments of cell phone recordings. Listeners are almost imperceptibly drawn into a trance-like state that ties in with ancient rituals .
