Korngold: Der Ring des Polykrates

While we are on really extraordinary cpo excavations: our second new release truly deserves this label: the first recording of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's single act "Der Ring des Polykraten". Not only the experts have been waiting for this for a long time Korngold has experienced something of a renaissance in recent years, and it is no longer a secret that his early works are among his strongest inspirations. Already with his first works, which he wrote at the age of 15(!), he had found his very own unmistakable tone The "Ring of the Polycrates", his first opera, which he wrote at the age of 17, is the cheerful counterpart to the "Violanta" written immediately afterwards. Both works were premiered in 1916 by none other than Bruno Walter at the Munich Hoftheater - with sensational success. One stands almost bewildered in front of this score and wonders how a young man with such a light, ironic hand can transform this "comedy" (according to Father Julius), which transforms Schiller's ballad of the same name into a rococo story, into "most dazzling" music Well, let us not be surprised, we are rather happy about this recording, which, according to the occasion, has a brilliant cast Beate Bilandzija (our "Mona Lisa"), Endrik Wottrich, Kirsten Blanck, Jürgen Sacher and Dietrich Henschel. The Korngold-tested Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin will play under the expert direction of Klauspeter Seibel.
