Popis
"The Gewandhausorchester has Bruckner's music in its DNA," says Andris Nelsons, Gewandhauskapellmeister since 2018. The orchestra and its conductor have now completed their much-vaunted joint Bruckner cycle, which combines the symphonies with orchestral works by Wagner in a unique form. The idea for this was obvious to Nelsons, as Bruckner himself deeply admired Wagner and engaged with his music. Bruckner's Symphony No. 0 ("Die Nullte") can now be heard for the first time as interpreted by Nelsons and the Gewandhaus Orchestra, as well as Wagner's overtures to "Rienzi" and "Der fliegende Holländer".
Reviews
"Nelsons relates the lyrical and the dramatic directly to each other, without acting consecrated. Emphasis gets by with Nelsons without exaggeration." (FonoForum on No. 1 & 5)
"Nelsons always gets to the point, never takes too long. He creates organicism because he knows how to lead the orchestra with great dynamic precision and the Leipzig orchestra follows him meticulously." (FonoForum on No. 2 & 8)
"The Gewandhaus Orchestra offers an exquisite sound culture - enchanting." (Stereo on No. 3)
"Andris Nelsons and the Gewandhaus Orchestra begin their cycle brilliantly: you hardly ever hear Bruckner conducted with such fine hearing and sensitivity." ('Recommendation of the month' FonoForum on No. 3)
"The brass of the highly cultivated Gewandhaus Orchestra performs with a slender and, where required, radiant distinctiveness, without ever lapsing into the tätärätä of noisy salvos. In addition to the high art of phrasing, especially of the silky-glossy strings, which at the same time follow the clear line, the superb balance of events ennobles the recording. Almost every detail, almost every polyphonic configuration reaches the auditory nerve in a precisely illuminated form." (stereoplay on No. 4)
"Andris Nelsons achieves undeniably beautiful moments in Bruckner's Fourth Symphony - especially in the lyrical passages, which are tender, almost enraptured and sometimes close to the threshold of audibility, always exquisitely sounded." (FonoForum on No. 4)
"The dignified gravity of the Wagner Funeral March, more detached and solemn than dramatic and torn by pain, prepares us for a Bruckner who exudes great calm and expansiveness and gently skirts the spikes and corners of the score." (FonoForum on No. 7)
