Viotti: Violin Concertos 19 & 22

"Viotti's Concerto in A minor is my very special rapture. It is a magnificent piece, with a strange freedom of invention; it sounds as if he were fantasizing, and everything is masterfully conceived and crafted. If people had any idea that they would get the same thing from us drop by drop that they can drink there to their heart's content " Johannes Brahms wrote this to Clara Schumann in 1878. Even if Brahms is certainly too modest here in his own respect; as far as Viotti is concerned, even today there is nothing to add. Giovanni Battista Viotti was not only the most important violin virtuoso of his time, but also a composer of high grace. We are now presenting a new recording of the Violin Concerto No. 22 in A minor coupled with the rarely heard Concerto No. 19 in G minor. The soloist is Rainer Kussmaul, accompanied by the Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss under Johannes Goritzki.
