Joe Chambers: Dance Kobina

Drum legend Joe Chambers was featured on many style-defining Blue Note albums of the 1960s, including Wayne Shorter's "Adams Apple," Bobby Hutcherson's "Components," Freddie Hubbard's "Breaking Point," Joe Henderson's "Mode for Joe," McCoy Tyner's "Tender Moments" and much more. It took until 1998, however, for the much sought-after sideman to make his own Blue Note debut as a leader with his album "Mirrors." in 2021, he returned to the label for the first time in the new millennium as a drummer, percussionist, vibraphonist and composer with the album "Samba De Maracatu." Now on "Dance Kobina," his third Blue Note album as a leader, Chambers explores the deep musical connections between jazz, Latin, Brazilian, Argentine and African music. Co-produced by pianist Andrés Vial and recorded in both New York and Montreal, the album features compelling Chambers originals, including "Gazelle Suite," "Ruth" and "Caravanserai," as well as interpretations of pieces by Vial, Kurt Weill, Joe Henderson and Karl Ratzer.
