To celebrate Arvo Pärt's 90th birthday, the album Tractus, released in 2023, is now being released in an elegant 2-LP vinyl edition, which includes all texts and essays in a high-quality printed insert. Tractus focuses on Arvo Pärt compositions in which the timbres of choir and string orchestra merge. New versions of his pieces predominate, with focused performances by the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir under the direction of Tõnu Kaljuste, inviting attentive and concentrated listening. The opening composition Littlemore Tractus, which is based on reflections from a sermon by John Henry Newman, already resonates with the idea of change, transfiguration and renewal and sets the tone for a recording whose character is defined by taking stock, looking inwards and reconciling with the past. The compositions include Littlemore Tractus, Greater Antiphons, Cantique des degrés, Sequentia, L'abbé Agathon, These Words... and Veni creator. A profound new arrangement of Our Father for choir, strings and piano concludes the album. The album Tractus, recorded last year in Tallinn, continues the series of authoritative Arvo Pärt albums that began in 1984 with the epochal Tabula rasa on ECM New Series.
