Popis
Homage to a musical revolutionary on the 400th anniversary of her birth: Emöke Baráth's solo debut with works by Barbara Strozzi. Friends of early music already know the voice of the young Hungarian soprano Emöke Baráth: alongside the French star countertenor Philippe Jaroussky, she participated in the Erato albums La Storia di Orfeo, the complete recording of Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice and Handel's Partenope. In her stellar concert and opera career, she also focuses on Baroque music, in addition to works by Mozart, Mahler or Mendelssohn. With her first solo album as an Erato exclusive artist, she now delivers a Discovery: the program of works from the Baroque Venetian opera repertoire pays tribute to Barbara Strozzi (1619 -1677) - the first composer ever to publish works under her own name and thus also to be commercially successful in the music scene of her time. In August 2019, the music world will celebrate her 400th birthday. "She was a revolutionary personality," says Emöke Baráth, who, on her album Voglio cantar alongside the ensemble Il pomo d'oro, slips into Barbara Strozzi's role, so to speak - and thus finally brings the composer out of the shadowy existence of an insider tip. The album title (German "Ich will singen") becomes the motto of Strozzi's assertiveness. In addition to her works, which are characterized by baroque drama, pieces by her contemporaries, such as Pietro Francesco Cavalli, complement the program.
